Jeffrey Lehn
Senior Digital Forensics Consultant
I specialize in vehicle forensic investigations and advanced data recovery, with a 20-year career in the New York City Police Department focused on extracting digital evidence from vehicles, embedded systems, and IoT devices where commercial forensic tools provide limited or no support.
Recognized as the 2023 Berla Investigator of the Year for contributions to vehicle forensics, I have conducted hundreds of forensic acquisitions utilizing chip-off analysis, micro-soldering, and In-System Programming (ISP) to translate complex technical data into clear, defensible evidence. As the creator and lead architect of the NYPD’s flagship Vehicle Forensics Unit, I was responsible for the end-to-end design of the laboratory, including hardware specification, forensic workflows, and the establishment of standard operating procedures for digital evidence acquisition and preservation.
I am a NYS Licensed Independent Adjuster and a qualified Expert Witness, having authored more than 100 expert affidavits and provided trial testimony in U.S. District Court (E.D.N.Y.) and New York State Supreme Courts.
As a Technical Educator and Course Director, I have trained over 4,000 investigators worldwide. This includes serving as the Director of the NYPD Auto Crime School, where I oversaw the technical training of students from the NYPD and 44 separate external agencies, including federal partners such as the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, HSI, and CBP, as well as international participants from Jordan, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai. I have developed curricula for the NYPD Detective Bureau (CIC), Patrol Services, Housing, and Domestic Violence units, as well as Teel Technologies.
My work sits at the intersection of technology, investigation, and the legal system, ensuring that complex forensic findings are accurately interpreted and effectively presented as defensible evidence.
